Indian Special

A short bus ride from Uni at 58a Balaclava Rd is a great Indian restaurant, AJ's. The budget banquet proved to be very satisfying and full of flavour. We enjoyed pappadums, a selection of sauces and chutney, samosa, Lamb Chops and Chicken Tikka, this was follwoed by a tasty eggplant dish, chicken with spinach, lamb and beef. Some in the group were a bit shy of the chilli so the dishes were quite mild with fresh chilli served separately for those who wanted a bit more fire. Light and fluffy pilao rice and mint sauce complemented the food beautifully and the naan bread was fresh hot and delicious.
Our host chose the sauces for the meat dishes for us and was most attentive in suggesting the best order to enjoy the dishes to help us fully appreciate the great flavours. The budget banquet was $33.50 per person and we took some food home with us. BYO charge is a bit steep at $3.00 pp.
A terrific place to dine and would certainly recommend it for a special meal in a group or just for two. Suggest you book for a Friday or Saturday night - it's very popular with the locals. LG.
